TD Lab

A fully equipped thermal desorption GC/MS instrument for you to work with.

Accurate analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in indoor air samples or emanating from distinct sources in the environment is extremely challenging.

This is primarily due to the fact that a large variety of compounds exist in the gas phase with concentrations ranging from ppt to percentage level.

Usually, trace levels of volatile organic compounds are determined by passing air over a sampling tube, which contains a bed of a suitable packing material.

Thermal desorption is to be preferred to release trapped components, since it can be carried out fully automated an on-line with the analytical instrument. Obviously, this results in a substantial sensitivity gain compared to liquid desorption where only a small percentage of the extract is injected.

In addition, thermal desorption does not lack the abilty to detect compounds that elute under the solvent peak and does not require the use of toxic solvents such as carbon disulfide.

For both new and advanced thermal desorption users we have installed a fully equipped Markes thermal desorption system to one of our GC/MS systems. The configuration consists not only of a Unity 2 thermal desorber but also other peripherals such as a UltrA 50/50 with recollection, an airserver and a microchamber to carry out material emission analysis.

Facilities:

- Fast GC/MS
- Markes Unity 2
- UltrA 50/50 with recollection
- Air Server
- Microchamber (µ-CTE)
