Handbook of GC/MS

Author: Hans-Joachim Hübschmann
Published by: Wiley-VCH
ISBN: 978-3-527-31427-0

Knowledge of the GC/MS technology is a prerequisite to make the best choices for a straight and simple method – from sample prep to injection, chromatographic resolution and detection.

A staggering amount of GC/MS time is lost to troubleshooting, which is often frustrating and highly ineffective. Investing time in under-standing GC/MS technology is mandatory when one rapidly wants to achieve reliable analyses. Dr. Hübschmann, took his time to bring the present knowledge into a concise and readable form.

The first part of the book is dedicated to basic fundamentals in sample prep, GC and MS techno-logy. In 250 pages, all basics are explained in several short chapters with clear figures and basic formulas.

The second part of the book is dedicated to the evaluation of a GC/MS analysis. In 30 pages, chromatograms as well as identification and quantitation are thoroughly explained, again in several short chapters.

The last part of the book (approx. 200 pages) is a comprehensive glossary of the most important applications in environmental analysis, toxicology and food analysis. Every application is docu-mented with a small introduction, a full description of the analytical conditions and a results part, including tables and chromatograms.

The handbook of GC/MS is more than just a handbook, i.e. a comprehensive and instructive book on the subject. The biggest advantage of the book is that it has not only been written for the daily practitioner, but also for the analyst who wishes to familiarise him/herself with any or all the as-pects of GC/MS. It should be present in every food, environmental, pharmaceutical and clinical laboratory that is using GC/MS.
