Cryogenic modulator for GCxGC

Comprehensive 2D GC (GCxGC) is an extremely powerful separation technique in which two columns of differing size and polarity are directly connected to each other.

Generally, the first column is of standard dimensions, whilst the second dimension column is short and has a small internal diameter. Compounds eluting from the first column are focussed and introduced as small peaks on the second dimension column for ultrafast separation.

Refocussing and re-injection is achieved by means of a dual jet cryogenic modulator wich is located at the front end of the second dimension column. By alter-nating the cryogenic flows at fixed intervals, co-eluting peaks are cut into smaller fractions, which are subse-quently separated in the second dimension.

GCxGC method development is rather straightforward once the correct column combination
has been selected. In order to assist you in this process and provide you with the possibility to evaluate the effect of proper column choice on your samples, we have initiated the GCxGC Lab initiative.
